It exudes style and elegance...
Kildrummy Castle Hotel is a small privately owned hotel in Kildrummy, near Alford in Aberdeenshire. The hotel overlooks the ruins of the 13th century Kildrummy Castle. The house was originally built and owned by Colonel James Ogston, my husband's grandmother recalls him being known as Soapy Ogston when she was younger as he made his money from a soap factory in Aberdeen. He made a lot of money and owned several big houses at least two of which are now hotels. He purchased the Kildrummy estate but as the existing house was not to his taste he built a new home which was finished in 1900. The house was lived in until 1954 and then in 1956 it opened as a hotel.
Set in the heart of the Grampian Highlands, it is a great base for touring the many castles and distilleries in the area. Having retained most of its original features, Kildrummy castle offers a rare opportunity to enjoy the style and elegance of a by-gone era combined with all the comforts and service of a modern first class hotel.
It exudes style and elegance offering a welcoming bar and lounge area and a magnificent dining room. Rooms offer all modern comforts and are well equipped. |

* The restaurant prides itself on using fresh local produce and indeed the menu contained the famous Aberdeen Angus Beef, Moray crab and other seafood. The room is all wood panelled, the wallpaper was a peach colour with a border. The tablecloths and napkins were linen. |

* The hotel has 16 rooms, unlike many hotels it has not been extended so all these rooms are in the original house. The décor is traditional Scottish hunting lodge complete with original oak wood panelling, chandeliers, wall tapestries and old paintings (with a few stag skulls thrown in for good measure!). There is a beautiful carved wooden staircase which splits into two and has carved wooden lions at the bottom. There are also real log fires in the drawing room. The dining room and the drawing room are both non-smoking areas. |

"Just go!"
This is your great Scotish country house. You must go. Outrageously expensive but one cannot take it with one. Right? To sit on the front lawn and smoke a Cuban whilst polishing off a gin and tonic and watching the sun set in back of the castle....well, just go for it. The food is wonderful, the hushed staff properly upstairs/downstairs. The bathrooms need updating but that may be part of the charm. Tough to find but do go.

"Simply the best!"
Just returned from 2 days at Kildrummy Castle Hotel and what a fabulous place it is! We benefited from an Autumn deal and found everything about the hotel excellent - the rooms, the staff, the meals, the location. It fully deserves its reputation and the staff go out of their way to make you welcome and nothing is too much trouble.
We awoke to the first snow of Winter and what a picture it was - the grounds and old castle ruins just looked amazing! Fortunately the roads were well treated and we later went on to Balmoral castle to see where Her Majesty spends the summer - very nice but they don't do bed & breakfast, oh well!

"Excellent"
Very good. Staff are unobtrusive; setting, overlooking superb castle, is outstanding. Breakfast is very good as is evening meal. Rooms are slightly dated but then modern is is not what this hotel is about. Would return.
